The Museum of Oriental Art has opened an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Nikolai Roerich's Altai expedition

The Belukha Call. On the Roerich Route exhibition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Altai expedition of the outstanding artist, philosopher, and traveler Nikolai Roerich, has opened at the VDNKh branch of the Museum of the East.

The exhibition features about 70 works by contemporary Russian artists created as a result of a large-scale open-air expedition that took place in 2022−2024 along the route that Nikolai Roerich followed in 1926. The project participants visited the Altai Mountains, the Uimon Valley, and the surroundings of Mount Belukha, inspired by the region’s unique natural landscapes and cultural heritage.

The exhibition presents paintings, works in the technique of tempera, as well as works of ceramics and bronze. The authors of the works are academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Arts, artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, the Altai Republic and the Altai Territory.

The central place in the exhibition is occupied by the bronze sculpture "The Roerich Family" by the artist Mikhail Kulgachev. Visitors will also be able to see the works of Viktor Kalinin, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, Evgeny Romashko, People’s Artist of Russia, Anatoly Shchetinin, Honored Artist of Russia, and other famous artists.

The exhibition is complemented by works by Roerich artists from the collections of the Museum of Oriental Art and the Museum of the History of Literature, Art, and Culture of Altai, including works by Boris Smirnov-Rusetsky and Leopold Tsesyulevich.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until July 5.
